We use the best, all natural (non-genetically altered) seeds available. Our crops grow in a controlled greenhouse environment that dramatically reduces exposure to disease and pests. As such, we do not use pesticides!

In our hydroponics system, the water is channeled through troughs filled with an inert growing medium (perlite) in which plants have been grown so that their roots can absorb what they need from a properly formulated, nutrient solution. This closed recirculation system allows the water and nutrients to flow through the growing trays and then return to a tank where the nutrient solution is constantly adjusted to maintain a constant balance for the plants.

High quality water is fundamental to hydroponics growing and at Bella Verdi Farms we use "captured" rainwater from a collection system designed and implemented by experts in rainwater collection and management. Natural and pure, this rainwater is filtered and sanitized and is the backbone of our growing system.

This system yields superior quality produce and also has the distinct environmental advantage of not directly impacting the earth with full strength fertilizers. As a result, nitrogen doesn’t build up in ground water – avoiding a typical agricultural by-product that has become a major factor in the contamination of America's waterways.

At Bella Verdi Farms, we focus on the major principles of organic agriculture, including an avoidance of pesticides and an emphasis on holistic plant culture. We supply superior quality crops consistently through out the year, and to do this requires growing in greenhouses. Since we grow our crops in greenhouses, we don't directly affect the health of the soil and surrounding ecology. In essence our growing method frees farmland from the burden of being agriculturally productive, thereby permitting the land to rest for future use (a cornerstone of organic cultivation). Hydroponics greenhouse growing is said to be 10-50 times more efficient than "field growing". As a result, every acre of space we use effectively allows up to 50 acres to be preserved!

Our policy is to grow vital and healthy plants that don't require the use of pesticides, and we take particular pains to ensure this. To begin with, we give our plants the protection of a sterile enclosed greenhouse. We also employ so-called “beneficial insects” such as ladybugs on a regular basis. But most importantly we meet the temperature, light and fertilizer requirements essential to a plant's capacity to fight off pests.
